ABSTRACT of the Introductive Paper

Title:  "Typical Food Chain Traceability": a powerful strategy in  a long term vision of European  Knowledge based Society".
Paper for the Congress on the Title :  "OGM-QUO-VADIS" -> 11-12 September   2003-> Bucharest Romania. see in : http://food-traceability.net/

  Abstract: :

"Agriculture in the history of food- production  was one of the   most knowledge-intensive human enterprises;  toadies food quality traceability is becoming the most important tool of the knowledge-based   economy"  Today the food- production process is no longer restricted to one location and can extend to distant locations throughout  the market's globalization.
Hence also diseases impact of food on health, need to ensure a efficient traceability control along the food chains.

Food chain's knowledge management is becoming a very important professional skill ; therefore a permanent education on this field is a relevant issue to get citizen and companies into the European Knowledge base Strategy, aiming to  generate a new knowledge economy model of sustainable and co-operative development to approach a most competitive business opportunities in renewing and enhancing quality of prtoducts and processes of traditional SME's -agro- food industry sectors.

Hence growing up a network in the context of strengthening European Research Area on the particular issue of Typical Food Chain Traceability, will be a  powerful  tool  which can respond to the consumers requirements of food quality and safety and to respect the European laws recently approved in relation to the European regulation, concerning Traceability and Labelling of food, particularly for the separation the new GMO-free chains by the traditional biological foods , as well as we sustain in the Leonardo Project "OGM" (  see  in : http://food-traceability.net/interno.php?sez=future )

The key to co-operation between the Partnership Consortium co-organisation for the second call on FP6 "IP"//T-17 ,  on the "Typical Food  Chains  Tracing", hence will be  a great scientific and technological challenge, that securely need  of  an large exchange of information and mutual understanding on food chains traceability (tracking and tracing) in a way that the proposed project will become an important instrument for the transparency of  the quality " Typical Food Production ",  from raw materials to purchased food , in a way that consumers can be sure that any contaminants must be taken quickly from the shelf or out of production.

Aiming to obtain this goal the  LRE/EGO-CreaNET of the University of Florence Italy, is working for improving a successful information exchange on  " Typical food chains tracing " and therefore  asks to the potential partners of  the new project proposal,  to be very interactive and proactive in considering  the complementary  key factors  that  must lead to accessible information systems on Science & Technology on Food Tracing , generating in this way an  important result coming from the Consortium agreement of co-operating partner's organisation.

In conclusion to provide a unified compelling vision and endorsement of the  European Knowledge Economy future , the LRE/EGO-CreaNET of the University of  Florence, suggest to the participants of the Meeting in Bucharest Romania , to enjoy in the organization of a TASK-FORCE of the trans-European  partnership's Consortium  for improving a "IP"   Project  on the  FP6-FOOD/T17 , on the issue of  "Typical Food Chain Traceability" .
